St Joseph Michigan plays host to the premier springtime Lake Michigan salmon fishery.   The St Joseph river is a warm water magnet for early season coho, chinook salmon, brown trout and steelhead.   As a rule, St Joseph Michigan has a far more consistent chinook salmon spring run than ports further to the south such as Michigan City and New Buffalo.   And the coho fishery rivals that of any port on Lake Michigan.

The port of St Joseph also has the benefit of a large warm water discharge to the south from the Cook Power plant, which sources as a spring hotspot for baitfish and salmon.   During the months of April and May, there is no topping a St Joseph fishing charter when looking for red hot fishing action!

Profishient Charters locates it’s fleet in St Joseph during April and May, targeting the incoming salmon as they move in from offshore and follow the shoreline north migrating with baitfish and cold water.
